Taped Interviews with Team Padilla to be released

The states attorney’s office says it will be releasing “hours” of taped interviews with team Padilla.  Padilla and his crew, particularly Tracy McLaughlin, spent days with Casey Anthony after they bailed her out of jail.

There’s no telling what all is in these interviews but whatever it is Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez tried unsuccessfully to squash them pleading to the court that Padilla was his employee and that any conversations he had with Casey Anthony regarding the case are privileged information.  Judge Strickland said negative, Padilla is fair game, after listening to the tapes himself.

Tapes will be released late this week or the following week according to a spokesperson.

Leonard Padilla to Testify

Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland denied a Casey Anthony defense team request to bar California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla and his associates from testifying about conversations they had with her.

He disagreed with Casey Anthony’s defense team, who claimed Padilla and crew were an extension of legal services provided by her defense attorney Jose Baez.

Padilla’s nephew, Tony Padilla, helped post a $50,000 premium required to bail her out of jail after her initial arrest last year.

Baez argued during a hearing Friday that the Padillas and their associates, Robert Dick and Tracy McLaughlin, were acting as agents of the defense counsel and should be covered by the attorney-client privilege.

McLaughlin stayed inside the home with Casey Anthony while the others stayed outside. They drove her to and from her attorney’s office.

Casey Anthony’s father, George Anthony, testified Friday that he believed the team was there for security for his family.

“It is reasonably clear to the Court that the individuals in question were not under the supervision or employment of counsel for the Defendant,” Strickland wrote in his four-page ruling.

The team was “simply protecting their investment,” Strickland added, referring to Casey Anthony’s bail bond.

Last Friday, prosecutors provided the judge with recorded law-enforcement interviews of Padilla and the others. Strickland had planned to listen to the recordings before making his decision.

It’s unclear how damaging their statements may be for the defense.

Padilla’s Team Searches Area Where Cross Was Found

17944924_320x180Two major searches for Caylee Anthony’s remains began Monday morning at 8:00am. Texas based Equusearch scoured parts of Orange County for the third day with the help of volunteers.Equusearch said they have received no help or cooperation from Casey Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder of her daughter Caylee, or her family.

Meanwhile, bounty hunter Leonard Padilla hired a four-person dive team to search part of the Little Econ River in Blanchard Park. He said the FBI is involved in the search as well. Padilla and his team focused on the river where a cross was found nearby.

“We feel confident enough, we have to, and we have to check it out” he said.

The cross was found hanging on a tree very close to the Econ River, which was the site of a major search effort to find Caylee’s body.”You can’t let something like this go because is sounds strange,” said Padilla.

A team member from Equusearch snapped a picture back in August of the cross hanging from a tree. The cross is made from the same type of arts and crafts materials found in Casey’s bedroom.

Padilla said he is focusing his attention on the photograph.

”We looked at the tree where the cross was hanging and it’s not more than 70 yards away from the water’s edge,” he said.

Searchers walked through dense brush, fields, even water. But aside from clothing and some apparent animal bones they found nothing to indicate they child’s remains were there.

“If you really want to delve into the mind of Casey Anthony, delve deep into some shrink’s ugly book, because she’s an ugly minded person,” said Padilla.

More info on Bounty Hunter Padilla not sending Casey back to Jail

Bounty hunter Leonard Padilla has apparently changed his mind and just told the Orlando Sentinel he no longer plans to revoke Casey Anthony’s bond on Saturday and send her back to jail.

On Thursday, Padilla told the Sentinel he feared for Anthony and her family’s safety, and that’s why he planned to put her back in jail. He said he and the bondsmen responsible for posting Anthony’s $500,200 bond last week would revoke it on Saturday.

But at noon Friday, Padilla told the Sentinel he spoke with Anthony’s defense attorney, Jose Baez, about the security concerns.

Padilla said he told Baez, “I want these changed because I don’t feel comfortable.”

“If he takes care of those by this afternoon or by tomorrow we won’t revoke [the bond],” Padilla said.

Padilla said people have called and e-mailed threatening to kill Anthony. He would not say what the safety concerns are and referred those questions to Baez. Baez said in an e-mail he would not comment.
