Former Casey Anthony friend says she’d never mention Zanny the Nanny

A former close friend of Casey Anthony testified today she had never heard of Zenaida Gonzalez or Zanny the nanny.

Annie Downing answered all questions during an hourlong deposition taken by Gonzalez’s lawyers, WESH-Channel 2′s Bob Kealing reported this afternoon. But Downing and her attorney didn’t take questions from reporters, Kealing added.

The importance of Downing’s insights? Her testimony contradicted Anthony family members, who said they heard Casey mention the nanny, Kealing said. Downing also said that Casey Anthony had never mentioned Zenaida Gonzalez, Kealing added.

Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation for linking her to Caylee Anthony’s disappearance. Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of Caylee, her daughter.

Gonzalez’s lawyers said Downing’s deposition helped their client and gave insights into the Anthony family, Kealing reported.

Casey and her mother, Cindy, had clashed over Caylee, Downing explained. Gonzalez attorney John Dill summed up the situation, “Cindy [was] kind of overstepping her bounds as far as being the mom to Caylee and how that was … an ongoing point of friction between the two of them.” (source)
