The mental health of Casey Anthony, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the disappearance of her daughter, Caylee, could be the key to determining her fate, according to a Local 6 News report.Anthony, 22, remains jailed and is scheduled to go to trial in January. Caylee was last seen in mid-June but was not reported missing until a month later.
Anthony has undergone two psychological evaluations, but the reports have been sealed by the judge who ordered the tests after Anthony’s arrest in July.
Local 6 News investigative reporter Tony Pipitone interviewed Lake Mary psychiatrist Dr. Ryan Hall, who has not examined Anthony and could not comment to her specifically, but he has studied women who have killed and their motivations for the killings
“You have to look at the motivation — why they’re doing — why they think they have to (kill their own child),” Hall said. Psychiatrists focus on five general reasons, Hall said.
Hall said that only in extreme cases can the killer be found not criminally responsible for the death. ”You have to have a severe mental illness, and two — due to the severe mental illness — you have to not realize what you were doing was wrong,” Hall said. Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who is in a psychiatric hospital after drowning her five children because she said she was battling Satan before calmly reporting the deaths to police, is an example of that type of person, Local 6 News reported.
Pipitone said the prosecution of Anthony thus far seems closer to that of Susan Smith, who let a car containing her two children roll into a lake, where they drowned. Smith blamed carjackers who never existed, and she’s serving a life sentence in South Carolina.
“She was interested in an individual, (and) he said he didn’t want to be with a single mother. She killed her two kids. There was concealment, it was planned out, she made false statements to police, she was trying to avoid detection (and) she knew what she’d done was wrong,” Hall said.

I agree with the statements about Casey being like Susan Smith. Except for one thing: Susan Smith admitted she drove her car (with her 2 children strapped in their car seats) into the lake. She broke down within days of the murders, unlike Ms. Casey, who can’t stop lying. The murder of a child is horrific but it’s the LYING that people hate. Why Casey and by extension, her parents don’t “get this” is beyond me. I blame Cindy and George Anthony. On an individual basis, they’re probably OK people but together, they are the devil incarnate. George is an emotionally battered husband and Cindy, well, she is just crazy. No good could come from that union. Sad. . .

I asked a question the other day on PPD? Casey’s friends and family said over the last few months Casey was doing irrational things. Can PPD just pop up a couple of years after giving birth? Also, isn’t PPD depression related and how can depression mesh in with all the partying, texting, shopping, lying. I always associated depression with closing yourself in, not wanting to socialize, etc. Does anyone know?

i read that GA said Casey needed very little sleep. Always out and about and not sleeping. That to me is a sign of bi-polar…maybe she had an episode (no offense to anyone here that might have this condition) and that episode (high) was going on more many months instead of just days or weeks. In conjunction with that she is a sociopath and liar. All these conditions combined might have resulted in her monsterous behavior. A behavior that we, the people, cannot understand. When I think about her now, I see her laughing herself silly in that holding cell, thinking “man, i got them going good!”

I think the main problem that Casey has is that she is a self centered spoiled rotten brat. I knew some girls when I was a teenager that were young mothers, not by choice, and they were more interested in partying and looking for the next dude than they were in taking care of their kids. It was because they were self centered, just like Casey. They would leave their kids with ANYONE, in order to get out and have a good time. None of them were mentally ill and I don’t think Casey is.
I do think she has some kinda mental disorder, not insanity but some kind. I doubt she’ll get dp especially if they never find the body but Im hoping for life sentence without parole which is far worse then dp.
MZO~I think she is certainly a sociopath which is a personality disorder, and she probably has several personality disorders, but a personality disorder is not considered acceptable as an insanity defense anywhere.

Before Ted Bundy died he said all the psycho babble about how he killed those woman because he wanted to control them was a bunch of bunk. He said don’t let anyone fool you….it was all about the orgasm. He knew what he was doing was wrong. But he was more interested in satisfying his own needs than the life of another person.
He was a good looking guy and had no problem getting girls but he continually needed more and more stimulation so he moved from rape to murder.
I’m not sure if he had a mental illness or personality disorder or was just spoiled rotten like Casey. But for sure he was interested in himself first and foremost. And so was Casey. She put other people at risk to satisfy her own needs.
I don’t buy for one single solitary second PPD. Oh, her attorney may use it, and a sympathetic jury may “buy” it, but PPD suffers don’t get instantly better once they do away whti their children.

It’s like a microsoft or Cisco certification, but not genralized to one company. You do have to test out at a testing faciltiy. In the spring I am taking Networking & Security. Also I have requested and they are working on Computer forensnics class. I am very interested in that! They are going to bring in LE to go over cases and such. Going to be very interesting!

Sometimes I think I should go into LE. Especially after yesterday. There was a shooting in my neighborhood. I knew something was wrong when I called hubby. Then I am on my way home and see 2 cops on a major hwy and all kinds of unmarked vehicles…Then turn onto the street into my subdivision and Lots of cops, nieghbors. It was at a home where eveyone knows in this neighborhood is troublesome. One of my neighbors thinks one of the ‘victims’ might have been doa. I’m waiting to hear a lot of info. My hubby was working on his car and heard the shots, but he didn’t want to worry me or tell me. He said the reatalitory shots took a few min and was couple of 45 shots and several 22 shots.

LE thinks last week they went through our yard. A jury won’t buy it, and I think it’s highly unlikely that the defense could find any psychiatrist to even give this as their expert opinion. The whole case for the defense will be trying to raise doubts about the evidence. That’s all they’ve got.

What is so disgusting in regard to actual criminal trials . . . each side will in fact find “expert witnesses” who will testify in offense and defense psycho babble. What is fascinating, however, is the jury always goes with hard evidence and common sense.

One thing I keep thinking about. If they find remains of a child this weekend, we will then be waiting for confirmation that it’s actually the remains of Caylee. And we may not know anything this weekend other than rumors or what is leaked. Trenton Duckett went missing from Leesville in 2006 and has never been found. The condition of the remains would tell the trained eye approx. how long the child had been there, but we’ll still have to wait. Let’s pray that if Trenton is deceased, they can bring this baby home this weekend as well.

I don’t think Casey is legally crazy, just bad. And, I believe that Casey’s psychopathic statements have tiny grains of truth in them that she then weaves into elaborate plots and stories. Poor Cindy – I hope she can crawl out from under the bunker of lies created by both Casey and herself (as she covers/covered for Casey) and accept that she did not have the mother-daughter relationship she wished she had and that Casey is pretty much beyond redemption and that she, Cindy, is sorry she ever enabled Casey even one little bit to continue on her road of destruction. It must be really tough on her but in order to save her own soul, her own sense of personal integrity, Cindy must come to grips with this reality. Good luck to her and everyone in that family. P.S. Is it true that Casey and Caylee both had the middle name “Marie”? If that’s true, that and the fact that their names sound so much alike that everyone, even the Anthony family, makes slip ups when talking about Cas…Caylee, then how freaking weird is that? Where are the healthy boundaries defining individuals? It’s like Caylee was somehow Casey recreated (or replaced). Truly strange and, I believe, unhealthy. There is alot of mental “unwellness” here, but legally crazy? Nah.
Do people with mental illnesses know they have mental illnesses or do they believe that everyone else has mental illnesses to convince themselves that they are not mentally ill, or could it be that they are so deluded to think that the delusion is not a delusional in normal….in a back word kinda way?

people that are mentally ill refuse (most of the time) to take there medication,and say they dont have a mental illness.They also believe they r fine and everyone else has the problem,now i dont know if casey is mentally ill or not but shes not right in the head.

There are lots of different kinds of mental illnesses, one of which is “personality disorder.”
Just because you have a personality disorder, does not make you insane. Wikipedia has a good article on personality disorders.

I do believe Casey’s psychological profiles and test results will be in play at the trial, but not in the way Lenamon is hoping.
The bond for a typical child neglect charge is around $10,000. In Casey’s bond hearing on July 22, Judge Strickland set her bond at $500,000 and said an electronic monitoring bracelet and two psychological evaluations were further conditions for release.
Baez tried twice to have the bond reduced to the more typical $10,000. The Florida Attorney General denied the bond appeal saying $500,000 was not arbitrary, fanciful, or unreasonable. When the motion moved to the District Court of Appeals, they were given the results of Casey’s psychological tests to review. They concurred with the AG and denied a reduction in bond.
And although the Grand Jury only heard from six witnesses on October 14, one of them (according to news reports) was an FBI agent who presented the results of their own psychological profile of Casey Anthony.
I doubt very much that Casey’s test results show that she is “normal” as she claims she was told nor do they present Casey’s psychological and emotional constitution in a sympathetic light.

Crazy fits in, allright. But I think she just acts crazy. She’s selfish and spoiled to a point where she could justify acting anyway she wanted to prove she will have things her way. Her parents wanted her to straighten up and act like a mother to her child and she said, “ok, I’ll show you a mother. I’ll not let you see her but I’ll do whatever the f— I have to do to do whatever the f— I want to do. And if it required drugging the baby so she wasn’t burdened with her then Casey felt justified in her actions. I’m sure she blames her parents for Caylee’s death because she was FORCED to take the child with her and it’s THEIR fault that they didn’t do the “right” thing and let Casey have her way by keeping Caylee and letting Casey run wild like she felt in her crazy mind that she was entitled to do. I think she’s a spoiled, selfish crazy b—
I don’t even think her actions were drug induced, either. I know of alot of people on drugs who still know not to take chances with their children, no way. I bet in her head she doesn’t think she’s responsible. She’ll deny guilt as long as she lives. When they find Caylee this weekend, I wonder if she’ll even blink.

It is obvious from her behavior and lack of emotion that she is a sociopath. She will continue to deny she did anything to that innocent child. She pouts and has that look on her face as if she is still a child herself, angry at not getting her way. I think her parents are partly to blame here as well, they constantly acted out toward the press and protesters at every turn. I understand thier position on it all, but just how much do they actually know about thier daughters’ lifestyle? I have a feeling they, especially the grandmother, wanted to take the kid and raise her, because they knew thier party girl daughter wasn’t capable of doing it.

Indy Deb, believe me, I know a personality disorder is no excuse and it does not make someone insane. Trust me, I was in no way sticking up for Casey at all, I can’t stand the monster for what she did to Caylee but I was just stating I do think she has a mental or personality disorder. Anyone who kills has to have something wrong with them in the head. However I don’t believe she is insane, she knows right from wrong or she wouldn’t have tried to hide it. Andrea Yates was insane, Casey Anthony is not.
