VIDEO:           Baez Holds Briefing

 If the grand jury decides to indict Casey Anthony on homicide charges this afternoon, she will turn herself in to authorities, attorney Jose Baez said at his office.

Anthony stood next to her attorney, wearing a white collared shirt with a Where’s Caylee button, during the six-minute press conference.

She is doing her best to stand tall in front of everyone,” Baez said. “They [the sheriff's office] threw the kitchen sink at her a long time ago.”

Anthony, who has never appeared at a press conference, did not comment. She became emotional at times and shed a few tears.

“Casey is going through a nightmare,” Baez said. “She has a missing child. She is also someone’s child.”.

Casey stood next to Baez, crying. Baez also accused State Attorney Lawson Lamar of using the case to gain political favor in an election year. Baez said Lamar had made Casey “public enemy number one.”

“I want you to hear it straight from my mouth. These are my words. I understand that there is an election going on and I understand that those days are numbered and I understand that Casey Anthony is public enemy number one and that the State Attorney’s Office and the sheriff’s department is under a great deal of pressure to close this case,” Baez said. “I don’t think Lawson Lamar and I certainly hope that Lawson Lamar would not utilize a missing child to keep his job, so I’m not going to throw out any accusations. We all know what the situation is and if people want to conclude that, I’ll allow them to do so. But as far as straight up accusations, it is not coming from me.”

Baez then referenced the WFTV news team he kicked out of the conference while talking about Casey’s presence.

“Casey wants to be here and she has always wanted to speak, but she trusts me and will allow me to speak for her. There will be no questions or any blurting out of anything. If there is, of course, you will find yourself out in the parking lot with some other less respectful people. I won’t stand for any tabloid reporting or any cheap shots or lack of respect,” Baez said.

  3. Christine says:

    nope…..lol

  4. ANNIA says:

    Too bad the kitchen sink didn’t hit her in the head, if it did, literally, we would not be seeing this pititul saga, wouldn’t we?

  5. ANNIA says:

    I meant PITIFUL…

  6. mdtn says:

    I cannot watch the video right now, but c’mon Casey, just tell the truth and this will all be better.

  7. Jennifer says:

    Thanks :)

  10. mdtn says:

    Thanks TVW

  11. mdtn says:

    I hope if they charge her, she will finally tell the truth, but I doubt it. This is killing me. Poor Caylee deserves so much better.

  12. Sherry C. says:

    That was an Academy Award winning performance! She knew just when to let that tear come down upon her face and, after several camera clicks of it, she wiped it ever so slowly away. Impeccable timing! That theater class she took in H.S. must have been her favorite subject.

  13. radiogirl says:

    Excuse me …I didn’t realize Miss Casey Nelson Mandella Anthony has been so persecuted unjustly .

    I better go round up some rock stars for an awareness concert ..Oh and to donate funds of course.

  14. InPrayer says:

    Hey Baez!

    Maybe this case wouldn’t be so “out of the ordinary” if your client wasn’t so “out of the ordinary” …

    If she acted and re-acted like a “normal” missing child’s parent, then perhaps she wouldn’t be public enemy number 1.

    But I guess you had to come up with something to say as the Defense Liar oops I mean Lawyer.

  15. scoobee says:

    Hey, just an idea regarding “Q” from last night…

    Could “Q” stand for Quentin- from Chuluota
    from off Casey’s cell phone sim card?

    This is from last night’s NG thread:

    Q, on October 13th, 2008 at 11:19 pm Said:
    I am a friend of one of Casey’s former boyfriends and while I agree with all you have said about her I hope you will suspend your judgement of her family. The hell they are going through has absolutely devastated them. No they dont want to believe Casey harmed Caylee and can you imagine trying to take on the truth of it if she did? Casey has not only hurt her family but also people who wanted to believe she was a good person..for an ex boyfriend to find out on the news that a girl he used to date had been cheating on him and has such a promiscuous history? Awful! She has tried to text people and they wont respnd to her and she is seething mad about these blogs..the most disturbing part is she still thinks there is no chance she will be charged. So judge her all you want…I understand that but her family has enough to deal with..Lee is lying low because he too is devastated and his gf broke up with him because of all of this..this is the ripple effect Casey has had on many lives and the worst thing is she doesnt ‘get it’ and is only concerned about herself and how she is being port

  16. Unknown says:

    Casey brought it on herself. Irresponsible mess… All she needs to do is tell the truth. -_- But noooo… She’ll let the tears act for her.

  17. radiogirl says:

    I will admit she looked like she was” holding up” a lot better at Fusion.

    Or was that “holding up” a beer , a store or her skirt?

    Oh heck I wonder how she is at holding up in a car trunk for about 11 days.

  18. roller24 says:

    I feel much more at ease knowing that soon, I will be able to sit back and so OH, Now I understand.

  19. Hope says:

    In the pic at the top, she looks so fake. ugh i just wnat to hit her right upside the head.

  20. anothermom says:

    Did y’all notice that on the pics from her computer on the date of June 17th, 2008, per forensics reports, she and Tony L are both wearing black and she has on a black dress with Rosary beads? I just find it odd that they are both wearing classic funeral-type attire….

  21. anothermom says:

    The picture is Number 14 of 30 in the discovery on this site under Casey Party Photos, but in the state’s evidence the photo is dated by forensics as June 17th, 2008….

  22. Evie says:

    Watching that video, made me embarrassed for JB. His public speaking is terrible for an attorney. He uses alot of slang/street phrases. I also noticed that Casey cried only when he discussed Casey. She didn’t shed a tear when he discussed her “missing child,” she only cried when he mentioned Casey and what she was going through. Hopefully when the Grand Jury decides she will be sitting back in her jail cell.

  23. Ro says:

    Viewed the news release above.
    So Baez is feeling indignant about the lack of respect for Casey???
    How about….
    1. Lack of respect for Law Enforcement officials trying to assist in finding her missing daughter
    2. Lack of respect for the life of her child who was missing for 31 days before the grandmother had the cajones to call the poilce
    3. Lack of respect for her friends’ bank accounts and property which Casey stole, pilfered, etc
    4. Lack of respect for her parents
    Yes, let’s discuss lack of respect. Feel free to add to the list.

  24. roller24 says:

    She doesnt look too mournful.
    She may have well wrapped herself in the American Flag like the no clothes party, but Baez did a pretty good job of doing that for her.
    I almost puked when he said that her getting a fair shake is why boys are dying in Iraq.
    and when he made all the inuendos about the states attorney being political, and then said he wasnt going to sling mud, hell, he didnt have any left to sling.

  25. roller24 says:

    Evie, she cries when her parents are mentioned, those tears came when he mentioned them, and also at the first bail hearing, no tears til mom and dad took the stand.
    SHe looks like a 5 yr old who got caught misbehaving.

  26. Bogart says:

    I got to say that while the video was interesting it was not comforting or re-assuring to myself . . . I felt like Baez was basically saying GUILTY, know what I mean? “prepare” Casey , when this is all over & we can speak? all of it was rather puzzling & not making Casey look a bit innocent. I don’t think if I was in this situation I would want that style of lawyering.

    Baez statement that Casey hasn’t run, never ran made hold true in their eyes but I think a majority of the public sees it more like “avoiding” . . . she has been avoiding the truth for quite some time.

    ~ May you ALWAYS be Blessed & may you ALWAYS Bless others ~

  27. hockeyma says:

    Boo hoo!! I think she failed drama 101 in high school. In the beginning of the conference, I thought she was going to start giggling a few times when she was trying to look serious – looking at the cameras directly a few times. I also thought she looks well rested for being a victim herself and worrying about her “missing child”.

  28. Ro says:

    roller24, yes, totally agree that it was inappropriate for Baez to mention our military fighting in Iraq and insinuating that they are doing it for Casey???
    He must be out of ideas and is grasping at straws. I think Baez will be relieved when the grand jury indicts Casey, he is probably thinking, “Finally, I’m outta that mess!”

  29. Sandra says:

    OMG I have seen it all this girl is the worse actor ever. She knows shes going down and no she can’t do her slut strut anymore

  30. mdtn says:

    Why can’t he tell us now what we will “understand” later? Doesn’t make sense at all to me. IMO he is a horrible atty. If he has info that would prove her innocence, why isn’t he releasing it? Doesn’t he know that all the info the media is reporting is hurting his case? Wouldn’t you put your side of the story out there too with the hope of casting reasonable doubt? Any thoughts?

  31. hockeyma says:

    well said Ro!

  32. Jane Blow says:

    I couldn’t get through all of this…if he can’t say what’s important in two minutes or less and has his client standing there during this moronic drone, well, I’d have to fire him if it were me.

    The tears are understandable. However, her constant touching of the hair and mouth remind me of underlying restrictions people engage in when they know something they are having a hard time keeping to themselves.

  33. Ro says:

    Yes, the camera had a few closeups too, and she looked well rested and tan, I thought that odd. I would expect puffy eyes from crying, no makeup, a few worry lines on her forehead. I suppose some people just look good no matter what.

  34. Jane Blow says:

    Yes, and a big truism about the lack of respect posted earlier…this woman has no respect for any of the lives that have been affected by her selfishness. Yet he has the balls to expect she be given respect.

    Given the chance to run, she’d do it in a heartbeat.

  35. Ro says:

    Someone mentioned Baez’ public speaking abilities, I think that was listed as one reason he was thought unfit to try a murder case. Of course, more importantly was the lack of he legal experience, etc, which is required. Baez seems to stammer a lot, like he is trying to collect his thoughts and ideas while up there in front of cameras, or courtroom, depending on situation. That just is not going to cut it when they’re in court?

  36. Coaster says:

    Nancy Grace is a true witch hunter, and it always surprises me to find she still has a job.

    A 3 year old would be swimming in a childs size 6, anyone who had spent time among children knows that.

    For the idiots of the press (read NANCY GRACE) – kids clothes are sized by the AGE THEY FIT. Unlike yours, which seem to reflect intelligence levels.

  37. Coaster says:

    If Casey is guilty, the press needs to tread very carefully. All this misinformation they are pushing will get a mistrial if they aren’t careful.

  38. radiogirl says:

    If the family had not changed their stories, accused others and RIDICULED the very people that ARE working on CayLees behalf such as Tim Miller I would have overall sympathy for them.

    But they have made public statements that are quite frankly a disgrace.I feel horrible that their grandchild is dead and they are devastated I’m sure.But my sympathy ends after that fact.

    Casey being upset over the blogs is laughable.The boyfriend being dismayed over her loyalty is silly .That is the very least of this equation.

    By not accepting the truth they are putting themselves and many others through hell.

    A friend of mines daughter in high school got two friends to break in and kill him and her step mother.

    They succeeded with killing the step mother,he lived.He was extremely wealthy,the motive was money.

    He worshiped that girl,but he testified against her anyway.He let the authorities do their job and accepted the truth .This is a spectacle

  39. Louisiana Girl says:

    Jane…agree. If she could take flight she would. This is a narcissitic b—h and she is only concerned with herself. This attorney is crappy. He should just go ahead and enter a guilty plea for her.

  40. N.C. says:

    Last witness is finished …jury deliberating

  41. Elaine says:

    Jose, Jose, Jose… aren’t you ashamed of yourself? No? Well, you should be. BTW, sir, the day shall never come when I will ever say to myself, “Oh, now I understand.”

    The fact remains that this woman (and I use that term loosely) has no respect for herself, her family, her friends, the law, or her missing child. I will NEVER understand, and I am insulted that you would make such an asinine statement.

  42. Teresa Van Wert says:

    coaster-the press was bad in the oj trial as well and guess what he was innocent not because of the press but because the dream team kept there mouth shut.

  43. Ro says:

    Hope I didn’t sound too judgmental in my earlier posts, I am just amazed at the nerve and audacity of Baez and his team of lawyers to even stand there and make those statements. They must all be willing to throw their legal careers down the old toilet for this person.??

  44. Teresa Van Wert says:

    janeblow-that is true but she cant run she has no where to go and no money bozo is just talking out of his a–.

  45. Krisam says:

    N.C.- I have been out awhile- I knew this would not take weeks, as NG’s guest suggested. How long have they been out?

  46. Stephanie says:

    Why can’t I get the video to play?

  47. Krisam says:

    TVW-Have not talked to you in a few days. How are you?

  48. faith says:

    stephanie I had to restart the video too. I wonder how long it will take to find out.

  49. Stephanie says:

  51. faith says:

    Hit the button again and try that. It worked for me.

  52. Teresa Van Wert says:

    baez-kicked out channel 9 saying they are tabloid news what????? They just want the truth like anyone else I think that he needs the defintion of tabloid. LOL

  53. mdtn says:

    go to myfoxorlando.com and you can view the video with no problems.

  54. Ro says:

    Try clicking on the little square photo beneath the actual video, it should have Casey’s face on it?

  55. Krisam says:

    A GJ will decide quickly. If indicted, it would take approx. 30-60 minutes to type the order and have signed by a District Judge. Depends on how quickly they want to move on it. But, just enough time to type and proof read the order and have signed.

  56. Kentucky says:

    “If the grand jury decides to indict Casey Anthony on homicide charges this afternoon, she will turn herself in to authorities, attorney Jose Baez said at his office.”

    This tells me, that she is guilty, and will only admit it if they are able to indict her.

  57. Teresa Van Wert says:

    krissam -im good its just with all these new blogs all over i seem to miss people left and right lol

  58. Krisam says:

    N.C. Thanks- I am on pins and needles!!!

  59. Jan says:

    Regarding Channel 9…………JP Chatt works there, doesn’t he? JP hates Casey don’t he? Atleast that is what Amy said.

  60. faith says:

    anyone wonder why she is crying all of the sudden. That is the first time I have seen her show any emotion. Poor caylee. All casey had to do was give her mom custody so she could do what she wanted.

  61. N.C. says:

    Jury finished…press headed into courtroom

  62. Teresa Van Wert says:

    krisam-it was updated 5 minutes ago. Now they have to diliberate. They will have an snswer today. And those guest on NG are NY atty’s who said that it can takes 2 weeks to get an inditement and that is because of all the testimony but they didnt interview all those people on the witness list which makes me think there case is more than circumstantal.

  63. Ro says:

    Baez stated that Casey “is also someone’s child”. He is playing upon the sympathy of…who??? If she knows anything or anywhereabouts of where this child could be, and she did not tell LE, why would anyone look at her in a sympathetic light? They just wouldn’t. And the lie after lie after lie and waste of resources and time of all involved, what in heck would ever make anyone say, “Oh, now I understand.” ????????????

  64. A says:

    It looked to me like Casey was wiping tears that weren’t even there. Seriously. Watch the clip very closely when the camera zooms in on Casey’s face.
    I couldn’t get over how she kept touching her hair, trying to be careful of it not obstructing view of her face for the cameras. Towards the end you could see her rubbing her lips together, to fix her lipstick. What a sick fugg.

  65. Jan says:

    http://www.wesh.com/breakingnews/index.html

    The are done deliberating……………into the courtroom!

  66. Yiayia says:

    Was there any forensic DNA evidence testified by the lab professionals in the Grand Jury?

  67. Ro says:

    Jan, yes that was my first thought when it was mentioned that a news station was kicked out of the conference earlier.

  68. truthfinder7 says:

    ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Grand Jury finished its deliberations around 3:40pm Tuesday and is expected to publicly announce whether or not they are handing up an indictment against Casey Anthony. Casey Anthony’s lawyer conceded earlier Tuesday that it was likely the grand jury would return some sort of indictment against his client in connection with the death of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony.

    possibly murder her beautiful precious little Caylee!!!!!!!!

    Sorry, forgive me fellow bloggers – just can not muster up once single solitary ounce of sympathy for this monster!!

  72. Holly says:

    Tears? Give me a break Casey they were not tears. I did not see any water coming from those eyes. A lot of people can pretend to cry. If that was me and I was innocent and knew that I did not kill my daughter I would have not stood there and kept my mouth shut. It should all be about Caylee and ONLY Caylee. So glad your going to turn yourself in. Should have done that a long time ago. This time without bail!!!

  73. Teresa Van Wert says:

    jan-i see it im so dam nervous i have to go to the bathroom now everytime i get nervous this happens lol

  74. Krisam says:

    Casey’s tears are for herself! Hopefully fear. And, I know this is not important, but she has put on some pounds. Maybe stress or guilt eating.

    3:47 pm:The grand jury has handed up an indictment. It is for a capital crime — we don,t yet know which one, so no bond. Since Casey Anthony is not in custody her name was not used in open court but the grand jury was hearinh testimony in that case. It will be public when she is arrested.

    TVW…………I know this is pissing me off!

  88. susie says:

    they have reached a verdict but it is sealed

  89. Dear Q:

    While we can appreciate your thoughts and request that we not judge Casey’s family, I find this hard to do. Casey’s father is an ex-police officer who is well versed in forensic science and, therefore, knows what death smells like. Casey’s mother is a registered nurse and I am sure in this line of work she has experienced many deaths and smelled many dead bodies. I can remember the first words out of their mouths and that being, “it smells like a dead body in that truck!” That in itself is incriminating. Lee, Casey’s brother, has refused to cooperate with the Sheriff’s Department whose only concern is to locate little Caylee that’s their job. Lee’s impression of his sister is that her lying is diabolical, those were his words. If Lee’s girlfriend left him, she’s a smart girl. I would not want my daughter associated with a family that covers up the death of a loved one especially a small child. The Anthony family has been covering up this mess and they need to come out of the closet and tell the truth and, if not, they should all be charged with accessories after the fact which also carries jail time. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Casey has spoken with her family and has revealed to them what she has done and they have made a conscious effort to try and help her instead of focusing on Caylee the real victim here. The public is tired of this family’s lies and contradictions from the mother on down to the brother. What the public deserves since we are paying for the search for Caylee is the truth. We appreciate your statements but we will not honor it. This family will definitely lose a lot more if they persist on holding vital evidence in the disappearance of Caylee. It appears the public has cared more for this child than any member of that family and they should suffer as much as Casey since they want to hold on to her lies. Caylee and not Casey should be their primary concern. Thank you for your statement.

  90. Teresa Van Wert says:

    Yes i think im gonna cry now tears of happiness

  91. Zak says:

  108. Elaine says:

    Now we get to go through the trial together. Maybe we should plan a Holiday party as well… Who wants to help decorate the Back Room?

  109. Zak says:

    What’s going on with the video? Did they lose her on the way home???

  110. 2shado says:

    Kim—aren’t those grey pinstripe???? looks like it. hmmmm

  111. 2shado says:

    following the truck!!!!!

  112. N.C. says:

    Now we have to wait for the info until she is taken into custody

  113. Zak says:

    What the heck? Is this turning into a chase??

  114. Elaine says:

    why are they only looking at pickup trucks???????

  115. Kim says:

    my computer screen shows dark, so who knows 2shado. Don’t know if LE still has those as evidence or not

  116. Hope says:

    isn’t she suppsed to be home by now?

  117. Zak says:

    Did Casey go home, or is this now a car chase??

  118. Elaine says:

    They stopped her & Cindy on the highway and took her into custody. Orange County has her.

  119. Zak says:

    Thank God. I thought she was going to make a run for it like OJ did.

  120. Neat says:

    Shortly before the announcement Casey Anthony was taken into the custody of the Orange County Sheriffs department. While in route from her attorney’s office with her mother, Anthony stopped the vehicle under a bridge near Boggy Creek road in south Orange County near a sheriff’s department vehicle.
    Casey Anthony was placed in the sheriff’s department car and taken away, where she was bound was unknown.

    Neat

  123. Zak says:

    There must have been very compelling evidence to get the jury to make a decision so quickly.

  124. Zak says:

    Is the webcam up

  125. 2shado says:

    Is he talking about the GJ??

    ~~~
    “They have seen and considered things which people shouldn’t have to see or consider, and vicariously have endured a lot of sorrow.” said Lawson Lamar, State Attorney in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida.
  126. Zak says:
    2 shado
    THe judge said that while he was thanking the GJ for their time of service (the last 6 months)
  127. Caylee — Justice is not blind she’s been sleeping. Hold on baby — we love you more than your family.
  128. #1Laura says:
    who is lamar referring to with that statement anyone know?
  129. InPrayer says:
    The Grand Jury … maybe all of the cases collectively were hard to handle.
  130. #1Laura says:
    oh thanks zak i was confused with that statement
  131. Zak says:
    I understood it the way InPrayer understood it.
  132. #1Laura says:
    cnn guys
  133. Hope says:
    YES shes going to jail. mybe GA and CA can get some sleep now with no protesters out side, and not worrying if casey’s will kill them in their sleep.
  134. Hope says:
    OH I bet Cindy is mad at George, can you imagine what he’s going to go through tonight?
  135. sway says:
    Hope ~
    If he wasn’t sleeping on the couch before, he is now!
  136. Zak says:
    OR they were playing good cop bad cop at home.
  137. mi says:
    Headline news has been running the clip of Nancy Grace and Tim. She asks Tim if a size 6 would fit little Caylee. Tim said he didn’t think so. The picture of Caylee in the little dress….she appears to be about 2 years old. There is no way Caylee could have worn a size 6 dress.
  138. Ro says:
    Nelli G, it was ex-boyfriend Jesse Grund who stated that Casey was a diabolical liar.
  139. sway says:
    I bet the neighbors are doing a jig !
  140. Zak says:
    I don’t think the dress will mean anything unless there is dna or other evidence on it. TM said the dress was in good condition. That really makes me suspicious.
  141. Teresa Van Wert says:
    i cant find any where that it says she was arrested already.
  142. Zak says:
    Is the jail webcam working
  143. sway says:
    I just rewatched the Baez conference and noticed Casey wearing a “where is Caylee” button !
    I didn’t notice it before.
  144. Teresa Van Wert says:
    cindy pulled in and no casey?
  145. Teresa Van Wert says:
    now we are at the jail mmm
  146. Zak says:
    3:16 post says Casey is in custody
  147. Jan says:
    Casey has been taken into custody but not officially arrested yet…….when she is booked is when we get to hear what they’ve charged her with……….
  148. Ro says:
    Glad Casey was indicted, perhaps now we can find out where Caylee is, what happened to her. There is a sadness though, that this all brings about. Sadness because of all of the lives ruined and thrown into upheaval by Casey’s actions. She’s ruined her own life but doesn’t realize it, or maybe now she does? Such a waste of so much, it didn’t have to be like this.
  149. #1Laura says:
    headline new will have something on it soon,cnn channel
  150. #1Laura says:
    guys it looks like they r getting ready for a news confence
  151. ohiomom says:
    awww — teeny, weeny violin —-
    loved the crocodile tears — if Baez is so certain that we will all understand, (in the great by and by), then why does he not tell LE now —-instead of allowing his client to be indicted?
  152. #1Laura says:
    im laughing right now they just reported casey anthony might repsent herself at trial with biaez as her consluat
  153. ANNIA says:
    I guess Baez knew that his client has no chance when he finally read all those documents he’s gotten from the DA office. How else would he make that statement that she’ll be ready to turn herself in if she is indicted.
    Anyone with a pea size brains knows what’s coming.
  154. SandyInAZ says:
    She is now in custody! WTG GJ!!
  155. nemellotus says:
    link on this story doesn’t work
  156. Elaine says:
    Baez said that people should not to jump to conclusions. He said that his client had been subjected to a nightmare and that people should try “to understand what she is going through.” Baez wrapped up the press conference by saying:
    “When we have finally spoken, everyone will say: ‘now I understand.’”
    I do not understand nor do I feel sorry for anyone who refuses to take responsibility for her own actions. She got herself in this mess; she is getting what she deserves. She is responsible for the probable death of her daughter although her method is yet to be revealed.
    May she pay a penalty suitable to her crime as is required by the laws of this great country, the USA, which is more lenient than the laws of most other countries on Earth.
  157. susie says:
    “Casey is going through a nightmare,” Baez said. They wouldn’t be going through a nightmare if she had told the truth and reported her daughter missing or dead in the first 31 days. She brought this all on herself and her family.
  158. s. Kelly says:
    Death for Casey…….she is a Narcissitic Camelion.
    Death for a person that has no value in our community.
    Death to Casey
