Tim in Colorado posted this in the comments section, I thought it worthy of a thread of it’s own.
When Clint House, the housemate of Casey’s most recent boyfriend, Tony Lazarro, (Casey’s housemate also, evidently, for about a week and a half or two in mid-June) was interviewed by Greta Van Susteren of Fox News, he said that he never heard the name Zenaida Gonzalez, though he did hear of a “nanny” from Casey. According to the arrest report, Tony Lazarro apparently said the same thing when initially interviewed by police.
From what I can tell, besides Casey’s parents, these two guys may have been the closest to the situation and in the best position to know if there had been a Zenaida Gonzalez involved in watching Caylee. But the impression I get from them is that George and Cindy Anthony watched Caylee for Casey more than anyone else.
One thing that hasn’t been that well documented but probably should be is not just Casey’s employment record, but her father, George’s. During the bond hearing Cindy Anthony testified that George was employed recently by a security company and was just starting a new job. We’ve also heard George say to the media that he left for work on Monday, June 16 around 1:00 p.m. and saw Casey and Caylee before he left. He is ostensibly the last person besides Casey to have seen Caylee before she disappeared that day.
Here are the questions that occur to me about this: (1) Do we have documentation that George was employed during the period of Casey’s and Caylee’s absence, from June 16 to July 15? (2) Didn’t George actually know that Casey was not regularly employed at that time, since he knew that she wasn’t leaving the house until much later in the day than one would expect for most employment situations? (3) If Casey had been staying overnight with Tony at his house since early June (best we can pinpoint may be about June 9), why was she staying the night at her parents’ the day Caylee most likely disappeared? (4) If Casey wasn’t regularly employed at the time, what was the need for a babysitter, besides in the evenings when she was clubbing — when her parents (at least Cindy) would be home from work anyway? Had they refused to watch Caylee in the evenings at some point? (5) While we’re at it, do we know what Tony’s and Clint’s work schedules were like at the time? If they were involved at Club Fusian in the evenings, might they not have been at least available to watch Caylee for quite a bit of the day?
What about Casey’s other friends? According to media reports one of the “flurry” calls that Casey made on June 16 — evidently the last one, by the way — was to Amy Huizenga. If I were the police, I would be pressing Amy hard for information, and here’s why:
* At the time the arrest report was filed on July 16, Amy Huizenga lived with another former boyfriend of Casey, Roberto Morales, just a block or two away from the Sawgrass Apartments where Casey pointed out the supposed residence of Zenaida Gonzalez.
* According to the arrest report, Amy Huizenga took a plane trip somewhere for a week, during which time she loaned Casey her car. The report does not say precisely when this was, but it would be a logical conclusion that the reason for this was that Amy knew Casey’s car had been abandoned and/or towed. Having this knowledge would put Amy in a position of potentially knowing more about the suspicious activities surrounding the car (the stolen gas cans, the smell and the dirt, stain and hair in the trunk).
* According to Cindy Anthony, it was Amy who helped her get back in touch with Casey again and recover the impounded Pontiac. As I recall, though, Cindy and George also told the media that they received a letter in the mail telling them the car was impounded; but it wasn’t clear to me how these two bits of information fit together in the timeline.
* Could it be that Casey is actually pointing surreptitiously at Amy, as to who the “nanny” actually is? With Casey’s story about a kidnapping, and with Cindy reporting supposed sightings of Caylee in the Atlanta airport shortly after the news broke of Caylee’s disappearance in mid-July, wouldn’t it be possible that these fabrications could have been inspired by an actual sitter who could have taken the child somewhere, even if that never actually happened?
Without further investigation, I acknowledge that these ideas are admittedly speculation, but I do believe that most fabrications are based on some tidbit of truth. In one of her early visit exchanges, Casey protests that she even though she wasn’t telling them the whole story, she was giving police valuable clues about her daughter’s whereabouts. Could there be some tea leaves to read here?
